Mental Capacity for Support Providers
2007 saw the Introduction of Mental Capacity Act 2005 and in April this year Deprivation of Liberty safeguards came into force.
If you are an SP provider these changes affect your service if you are working with people over 16 who have, or are likely to have, Mental Health problems, substance misuse/abuse, learning difficulties, brain injuries, memory problems, suffer a stroke, neurological disorder and dementia for example.
Mental Capacity Act and DoL safeguards are something we should all know about and be implementing in SP services where vulnerable customers make decisions about where to live and how to live. Equally it is important that SUpport staff are equipped to help ensure that thier customers are treated fairly and advised appropriately in relation to decisions affecting thier lives.
Many SP Providers havent addressed Mental Capacity Act requirements and many staff still require this necessary training.
As such, SLK is delivering a 1 day Mental Capacity for SP Providers training event from April 2009. The event is designed specifically for SP Providers. Please contact us and we will be happy to discuss this further.
Please use the thread to share your experiences of Implementing Mental Capacity in your workplace and the issues/concerns/ benefits this has raised.
